Electricity generated from wind and solar in Türkiye was equivalent to about 75% of the country’s total industrial consumption in 2025, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar told a business forum held with the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. He proposed a new generation of joint projects ranging from green hydrogen to modern power grids.
According to a Ministry news release dated 30 September 2026, Bayraktar attended the Türkiye–North Rhine-Westphalia Round Table Meeting and business forum together with the state’s Minister-President, Hendrik Wüst.
Renewables above 63% of installed capacity
Bayraktar noted that Türkiye is Europe’s third-largest electricity consumer after Germany and France. The Ministry said the country’s installed capacity exceeds 125,000 MW, with renewable sources making up more than 63% of it.
The minister described Türkiye’s energy policy as resting on three pillars: security of supply, lower import dependency and the 2053 net zero emissions target. The release also cited the International Energy Agency’s estimate that global clean energy investment must exceed USD 4.5 trillion a year by the early 2030s to reach net zero goals.
Delivery capacity meets finance
Bayraktar proposed pairing Türkiye’s project delivery capacity with Germany’s financing capabilities, naming natural gas, green hydrogen, modern electricity grids and critical materials as areas for cooperation. According to the Ministry, trade between Türkiye and North Rhine-Westphalia has reached EUR 11.2 billion.
