The new capacity is expected to generate enough electricity to power approximately 10 million homes.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"3721\" data-end=\"3770\">Record competition drives competitive pricing<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"3772\" data-end=\"3943\">AR7 was one of the most competitive offshore auctions ever held in Europe. A record 19 projects, representing a combined potential capacity of 24 GW, were eligible to bid.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3945\" data-end=\"4002\">The strong competition resulted in 2024 strike prices of:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"4004\" data-end=\"4072\">\n<li data-start=\"4004\" data-end=\"4043\">\n<p data-start=\"4006\" data-end=\"4043\"><strong data-start=\"4006\" data-end=\"4041\">\u00a391.20\/MWh in England and Wales<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4044\" data-end=\"4072\">\n<p data-start=\"4046\" data-end=\"4072\"><strong data-start=\"4046\" data-end=\"4072\">\u00a389.49\/MWh in Scotland<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"4074\" data-end=\"4247\">These levels are approximately 40% lower than the cost of building and operating new gas plants in the UK (\u00a3147\/MWh) and nearly 30% lower than new nuclear plants (\u00a3124\/MWh).<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4249\" data-end=\"4385\">The 8.4 GW of new offshore wind capacity is estimated to save UK billpayers nearly <strong data-start=\"4332\" data-end=\"4357\">\u00a31.7 billion per year<\/strong> compared to gas generation.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"4387\" data-end=\"4421\">CfD framework proves effective<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"4423\" data-end=\"4580\">The UK\u2019s two-sided Contracts for Difference (CfD) mechanism once again demonstrated its ability to de-risk projects and provide long-term revenue visibility.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4582\" data-end=\"4766\">With a total budget of \u00a31.79 billion \u2014 exceeding the initial \u00a31.1 billion allocation \u2014 the UK Government secured additional capacity to enhance energy security and economic resilience.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4768\" data-end=\"4925\">Following the failed AR5 round in 2023 and limited new capacity under AR6, AR7 represents a significant turning point for offshore wind deployment in the UK.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"4927\" data-end=\"4930\" \/>\n<h2 data-start=\"4932\" data-end=\"4955\">AR7 winning projects<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"4957\" data-end=\"5051\">AR7 awarded support to six bottom-fixed offshore wind projects and two floating wind projects:<\/p>\n<div
