Swedish energy company Vattenfall has announced plans for two new onshore wind farms in East Anglia, England. According to its press release of 25 September 2026, the Chatteris and Redmere projects would have a combined capacity of about 425 MW.
Up to 47 turbines
Chatteris Wind Farm, south of Chatteris, is planned with a capacity of up to 126 MW, while Redmere Wind Farm near Shippea Hill could reach up to 303 MW. Together the projects would include up to 47 turbines. Vattenfall estimates their annual output could meet the electricity needs of 321,369 homes.
Separate planning applications will be submitted for each project. Residents living within 3 km of the sites have been sent letters inviting them to the consultation events.
Three drop-in sessions in October
The sessions, which do not require registration, will take place on 13 October in Feltwell, 14 October in Mepal and 15 October in Littleport, each from 4pm to 8pm. Further events with detailed designs and visualisations from local viewpoints are planned for 2027.
Biodiversity and local benefits
The company has committed to delivering at least 10 percent biodiversity net gain over the lifetime of the wind farms, with specific measures to be defined after environmental studies. The projects are also expected to support local jobs and supply chains and contribute business rates and community benefit funding.
Robin Stewart, Project Manager at Vattenfall, said cheaper and more secure electricity for the UK means generating more power domestically, adding that Chatteris and Redmere could play an important role in the country’s energy future while offering local jobs.
