The delegation is being led by Energi Coast, North East England’s offshore wind cluster, together with the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority and Tees Valley Combined Authority.

According to the organisations, their participation will focus on presenting the region’s offshore wind infrastructure, industrial supply chain, engineering expertise and investment opportunities to the international wind energy industry.

North East England offshore wind capabilities at WindEnergy Hamburg

WindEnergy Hamburg 2026 is expected to attract around 43,000 attendees from 100 countries and approximately 1,600 exhibiting companies from 40 countries.

The event brings together wind turbine manufacturers, suppliers, developers, investors, service providers and industry decision-makers from both the onshore and offshore wind sectors.

The North East England and Tees Valley delegation will use the event to present the region’s existing industrial capabilities and infrastructure supporting offshore wind development.

The region’s ports include deep-water quay infrastructure, heavy-lift capabilities and access to major offshore wind developments in the North Sea.

According to the announcement, the region also offers approximately 8,500 acres of developable land for potential industrial and investment projects.

Ports and industrial infrastructure

Facilities along the River Tees, Tyne and Wear, together with the Port of Blyth, form part of the region’s offshore wind supply-chain infrastructure.

Organisations including ORE Catapult, the Net Zero Industry Innovation Centre and CPI also support activities relating to clean-energy technology, innovation and industrial development.

The North East Investment Zone and Teesside Freeport form part of the region’s wider investment framework for clean energy, green manufacturing and advanced engineering.

Strategic industrial locations including Teesworks and Blyth Energy Central are also being promoted as potential locations for investment and supply-chain expansion.

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said participation at WindEnergy Hamburg would provide an opportunity to present the region’s ports, land, skills and supply-chain capabilities to international investors.

North East Mayor Kim McGuinness highlighted the region’s activities in green energy and advanced manufacturing and said her Green Jobs plan aims to double the number of green jobs in the North East to 50,000 over the next decade, including 10,000 positions in offshore wind.

Energi Coast highlights future offshore wind opportunities

Joanne Leng MBE, CEO of NOF / Energi Coast, said the Energi Coast cluster has more than 25 years of offshore wind experience and that many companies within the cluster are already active in international markets.

Leng also referred to The Crown Estate’s indication that a new offshore wind leasing round expected in 2027 could accommodate around 6 GW or more of capacity, predominantly off the coast of North East England.

According to Energi Coast, companies in the region are preparing to work across shallow-water fixed-bottom, deeper fixed-bottom and floating offshore wind developments as future projects emerge.

The announcement also stated that the potential leasing opportunity could support up to 10,000 direct jobs and contribute more than £12 billion to the UK economy. These figures represent projections cited by the organisations involved.
