According to end-August 2026 data from Türkiye’s Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the country’s installed wind power capacity has reached 15,434 MW, accounting for 12.2% of total installed capacity.

Data released by the Ministry on 26 September 2026 show that Türkiye’s total installed electricity capacity stood at 126,944 MW at the end of August. Wind power plants make up 15,434 MW of this total, while combined wind and solar capacity has risen to 43,348 MW, a 34.2% share.

Total renewable capacity reached 79,902 MW, or 62.9% of the installed base. Hydropower remains the largest single source at 32,331 MW (25.5%), and domestic resources account for 72.1% of total installed capacity.

A decade of wind and solar

On 21 September 2026, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar shared figures on the contribution of wind and solar over the past decade. Between 2015 and 2025, Türkiye generated a total of 442.2 TWh of electricity from wind and solar, up from 11,847 GWh from the two sources in 2015.

According to the Ministry’s calculations, generating the same amount of electricity from coal would have emitted around 354 million tonnes of CO₂, and around 177 million tonnes if generated from natural gas. The output is estimated to have avoided USD 21.5 billion of imports in the coal scenario and USD 43.3 billion in the natural gas scenario.

Target: 120 GW of wind and solar by 2035

Türkiye aims to reach 120,000 MW of combined wind and solar capacity by 2035. For wind, new capacity toward this goal is being brought forward through the Ministry’s YEKA (Renewable Energy Resource Area) competitions.
