Electricity generation from wind and solar in Türkiye reached a combined 9.9 billion kilowatt-hours in August 2026, the highest monthly level on record, according to data shared by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (ETKB) on 6 October 2026. Wind power plants generated 4.74 billion kilowatt-hours during the month.

Wind accounts for 12.9 percent

According to the ministry’s figures, wind-based generation of 4.74 billion kilowatt-hours made up 12.9 percent of total output in August. Solar generation came in ahead of wind at 5.16 billion kilowatt-hours, a 14.1 percent share. Total electricity generation for the month was 36.71 billion kilowatt-hours.

Hydropower remained the largest source in August with 9.08 billion kilowatt-hours and a 24.7 percent share. Renewable sources supplied 20.7 billion kilowatt-hours, or 56.4 percent, while domestic sources supplied 25.58 billion kilowatt-hours, or 69.7 percent.

The ministry also reported that the year’s highest daily generation was recorded during the month, at 1,241,291 megawatt-hours on 13 August.

30.4 billion kWh from wind in eight months

In January–August 2026, wind power plants produced 30.4 billion kilowatt-hours, slightly ahead of solar at 29.8 billion kilowatt-hours. Hydropower output over the same period was 75.2 billion kilowatt-hours. Over the eight months, renewable generation reached 149.8 billion kilowatt-hours (60.3 percent) and domestic-source generation 181.8 billion kilowatt-hours (73.2 percent).

Commenting on the figures, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar said the aim was not only to meet today’s energy demand but to build a strong infrastructure that is sustainable, innovative and fully free of external dependence.
