Europe connected 8.8 GW of new wind capacity to the grid in the first half of 2026, around three quarters of it onshore, according to WindEurope’s autumn data update.
WindEurope’s “Latest wind energy data for Europe – Autumn 2026”, published on 1 September 2026, shows that 7.1 GW of the 8.8 GW installed in the first six months was in the EU-27. Onshore wind accounted for 6.5 GW, or 74% of new installations, while offshore added 2.3 GW. Germany led with 3.4 GW, followed by the United Kingdom (789 MW) and Spain (612 MW).
Europe’s wind fleet reaches 311 GW
Europe’s total installed wind capacity now stands at 311 GW, of which 270.5 GW is onshore and 40.9 GW offshore. The EU-27 accounts for 252 GW (228.4 GW onshore, 23.2 GW offshore).
Orders and investment
Firm turbine orders reached 10.6 GW in the first half (7.8 GW onshore, 2.8 GW offshore). Governments in five countries awarded support to 17.2 GW of capacity, and EUR 9 billion was raised to finance 5.2 GW of future capacity. WindEurope expects Europe’s wind capacity to reach 436 GW by 2030, and the EU-27’s 342 GW.
